Don't Blink (2/25/11-present)

February 25, 2011

**ONE**

**TWO**

We blinked and you are (almost) three.

Not a day has gone by that your giant smile hasn't brightened a room. We love you so much and are so lucky to have you. And, while you like to remind us that you are "a wittle bit big," you will always be our baby. You're the best, Lukey!

While Daddy Was Away...

Creed got back late last night after a five day skiing trip to Big Sky, Montana with PeePaw, Matt, and Drew. Apparently they had a few really tough days- skiing fresh powder each day, spending the evenings in the hot tub, eating dinner out, etc. ;)
Needless to say, they had an awesome time!

Apparently they needed to sit and rest for a few minutes after skiing down that peak in the background!

While Creed was gone we stayed busy and the time actually seemed to fly by. We spent Wednesday afternoon and evening at cousin Ava's house. The kids were super excited to decorate heart-shaped cookies and even more excited to eat them (before dinner!)

I was supposed to work on Friday, but when JCPS called another snow day, I got to stay home and play airplanes and pirates with Luigi- this kid LOVES to dress up! (Caleb had school on Friday and the funny thing was, the 2-4 inches of snow that was called to hit that afternoon never came...I think we officially got less than 1/2 an inch.)

I had a wonderful Valentine's Day dinner with my two boys, complete with a heart-shaped pizza.

Dinner also consisted of LOTS of chocolates. I think we tasted each piece that evening. :)

Over the weekend we had a black splash put up in our kitchen so cooking wasn't an option. Caleb requested his favorite, Hunan Wok, and I was happy to oblige!

Yes- he ate that entire plate of food...

We had a few fun and busy days, but are so happy to have Daddy back home!

So Happy

All he needs are a few cars, trucks, and diggers and he's good to go.

A Note in Church

At our church, children go to their class during the first hour for a lesson, snack, and then a combined children's worship while the adults are in their ABF (Adult Bible Fellowship) class. Then, while the little ones stay in the nursery, the kindergarten and older children join their parents for the main worship service.

It's taken almost a year of practice, but at this point, Caleb does great during the service. He has a little "New Kid of the Pew" bag full of crayons, workbooks, and his activity bulletin that he gets each week. He knows that he isn't supposed to talk, but every now and then he will nudge us and show us something that he has completed.

Yesterday, he showed us this note...
Can you read it?
Jesus died on the cross for our sins

I love every single thing about it, especially the message and Caleb's understanding. I love the illustration. I love that he used "4" instead of "for." I love that he put an "e" at the end of "did" to make the long i sound, even though it wasn't quite correct. Did I mention that I love this?!! Something to cherish forever.

More from January

The rest of my phone pictures from January...

I couldn't help but take this picture as I sat in car pool line one morning, waiting to drop Caleb off at school. Brrr!

Luke's finger hurt (not really!) so bad that he just couldn't clean up his toys. My solution: threaten the vacuum. It worked like a charm and all the pieces were picked up in under two minutes. :)

More fun with the Easy Bake Oven. This time Caleb baked two different cakes, one red velvet and one strawberry. Then layered them with strawberry and vanilla icing.

Yum!

The Dentist

Caleb is an old pro when it comes to going to the dentist but I had put off taking Luke until I thought he would be ready. I actually had this plan. I made an appointment for Caleb to go and then made Luke an appointment for two weeks later so we could talk about it, read books, etc. Tuesday was Caleb's appointment and Luke was so interested. He just sat at the end of the chair and watched intently.

After the dentist checked Caleb's teeth, she asked Luke if he wanted to have this teeth counted and cleaned as well. His response: Yes! (He had heard about "the treasure chest" and I think picking something from it was a big motivation.)

So, this almost three year old laid down on the chair and stayed perfected still during his cleaning. I was shocked. He followed direction, kept his mouth open wide, and even licked the toothbrush the whole time, which was just hilarious.

So, so, so proud of you, Luke!

And...ANOTHER Snow Day

We got the dreaded call at 5 am this morning, saying that school would be closed today due to an ice storm that came through late yesterday afternoon and evening. While everyone that has gone out today has said the roads "are totally clear" and "fine to drive on," apparently school officials were not too sure. Oh well.

Another pajama and Play Doh day!

These were some pictures that I took on Monday. We actually got out a few times that day to play in the snow. I shoveled our entire driveway and am still sore today. Luckily Luke was there to help me brush off the leftover snow. ;)

A Breakfast Date

Caleb normally gets up for school on his own, gets dressed, and plays in his room until 7:00. At that point he comes downstairs for breakfast. If he doesn't wake on his own, I usually wake him up by 6:40. On this particular morning a week or so ago, I heard him upstairs, or what I thought was him playing, so I didn't go up to wake him. At about 7, he came downstairs in his pjs, with a very grumpy face because I forgot to wake him up. Apparently I had heard Luke talking in his sleep and mistakenly thought it was Caleb playing.
So, to make the situation better, we quickly got him dressed and had a last minute breakfast data at Chickfila. It turned out to be a great morning, with lots of smiles and good food. Living about 1 mile from a Chickfila has it's perks. :)

Freight Train

Before swimming lessons last week, Luke got to see a very long and very loud freight train up close. It was, by far, the highlight of his evening. Sadly, it was like 7 degrees at the time so we couldn't stay out and watch the whole train pass.
