Bald Head Island, Part 1

After last year's trip to Bald Head was cancelled due to Hurricane Matthew, we made plans to come back the exact same week this year, hoping to get lucky with better weather...we ended up hitting the jackpot and had the best fall break we could imagine! (Be prepared for picture overload!)

Our flight out of Louisville left at 5:23am, so we watched the sun come up in Charlotte while we waited for our connection to Wilmington.

Wheels up, and ready to get to the beach!

PeePaw picked us up at the airport and we drove to Southport to get on the ferry. Luke was very anxious of the ferry ride at first...he couldn't understand why he wasn't wearing his life jacket on a boat!

But, as the ride went on became more comfortable.

Our first glimpse of Bald Head Island

There are no cars on BHI, so we had a little tram take us and our luggage to our condo.

We got settled in, the boys napped, and then we headed (and by headed I mean the six of us crammed on a golf cart meant for four!) to the beach for their Howl at the Moon party.

A local restaurant catered seafood chowder and everyone brought appetizers to share as we waited for the moon to rise over the Atlantic. As soon as the moon made it's appearance, there was bagpipe music and everyone on the beach howled. It was so fun!

Our condo was on the marsh and I got this beautiful full moon picture later that night.

Day two...

Luke loved all of the tiny crabs and had fun trying to catch them.

We spent the day Friday at the beach and it was perfection!

That night we had dinner at a restaurant that overlooks the marina so we got the see the ferry boat coming and going.

Recently...

Luke continues to amaze us with his original, and symmetrical, Lego creations.

Celebrating cousin Claire's 2nd birthday

Claire and Ava

I went up stairs one morning to put some laundry and found this taped to Caleb's door.
It reads: Life Coach 5 cents, Sign up sheet for advice
(He is a mess.)

We started swimming lessons for the boys with a focus on stroke technique. Both are strong, fairly fast swimmers, but neither really learned the correct way to do the strokes. Hoping this helps.

Luke celebrated his buddy Braden turning 7

Jake lives two houses down from us and he and Luke decided to be ninja spies. :)

Setting Up Camp

Last Saturday we camped at Lake Cumberland State Park.

Our version of camping includes a veggie tray for Luke, an air mattress for me, a full size coffee maker for me and Creed, Nintendo Ds games for both Caleb and Luke, and an 8 person tent...because we all want to be able to spread out! Oh, and I can't forget the use of a fire starter.

But, we still slept out under the stars...so it's camping. ;)

Saturday evening

We roasted hot dogs for dinner and made smores!

Oh yes! We consider coffee a basic need.
(Don't you know that the people a few camp sites over were like Do you smell Starbucks coffee? Surely not."  Ha!)

Sweet boy loved camping! He searched for "cool" rocks and sticks for the fire for hours.

Caleb was the last one to crawl out of the tent that morning. His face says it all...
