July

We LOVE summer!
There is nothing better than lazy mornings, sunshine, and fun on the water.

While Creed went back to Louisville to work one Friday, the boys and I stayed at the cabin and went to SomerSpash for the day. It is a smaller waterpark about 20 minutes from our cabin and could not have been any more perfect for us. We have already decided that we will let go of our pool membership at home and get a pass to SomerSplash next summer...it is that good.

We loved the slides,

play structure,

and sweet treats. :)

We got there right when the park opened at 11am and I made the boys leave at 7:30 pm because it was about to close! It was the perfect size (the boys could do everything), the perfect layout (everything was close by so they could do slides without me) and wasn't crowded at all. (According to a local, it is never crowded during the week.)

I am so incredibly thankful that I got to spend my summer having a blast with these two cuties!

"Our" pool at Jamestown continued to be a great way to pass the time while we waited on Creed to get back to the lake.

The boys spent countless hours exploring various shorelines this summer. Luke also managed to amass quite the geode collection.

Because Cumberland is so big, it is hard to know all of the best places to go. Thankfully we heard about this awesome little waterfall in Lily Creek and have spent many afternoons jumping and exploring since.

Caleb went to camp at Country Lake with some friends from school. This was his first overnight camp and he was so excited. Another mom commented, "You wouldn't ever know this was his first camp." when Caleb simply said, "Bye, Mom." Ha!

He had four friends from school in his cabin

After pickup he was all smiles. He said it was awesome and he wished it would have lasted a month. He also said that next year he is taking his own Charmin Ultra Soft. (Then he crashed and slept for 12+ hours.)

The boys got together with some neighbors on another street and had a lemonade stand. They did all the work themselves!

Worst shopping trip ever: School supplies

Erika and the girls came to the lake last minute one day so we had to take them to the waterfall.

Claire was so good and got in a great nap. (This is the first summer that I haven't had a boat napper.)

It took her a while to get up the courage, but we were so proud of Ava when she jumped.

The last weekend of July was Hume weekend on the houseboat so my mom's whole side of the family was down. While I sat on top of the houseboat and read, Luke spent hours wearing goggles and just picking up rocks along the shoreline.

Uncle Mark is always a trooper and takes the kids on jet ski rides.

Since Creed worked Saturday of that weekend, the boys and I went out on Grandmom and Grandpa's boat.

Tubing with Caroline

We had an awesome full moon that night!

 Uncle Luke and Aunt Bri

Luke took Grandpa up to see the waterfall.

Real life...back at home, Monday afternoons and evenings this summer were spent digging out of dirty laundry piles.

The boys and I wrapped up July by setting up my corner of my classroom.

Vacation, 4th of July Week

We had the best, most relaxing (and fun!) 4th of July week. The weekend before the 4th we loaded up and headed to PeePaw and Grandma Beth's lake house.

It's always so much fun...we relax on the dock, swim, fish, tube, surf, eat, and just hang out. It really is the best kind of vacation. We also had the best weather this year...sunny and 90s all week.

Peepaw got a new fishing boat so Creed was happy. :)

The boys also love seeing their friends that live in Minnesota.

Happy 4th!

Since the 4th fell in the middle of the week, we decided to spend the last few days of vacation at Cumberland. We ended up driving through the Cumberland Gap to get back (which was awesome!) and when we passed the sign for Natural Tunnel State Park in Virginia, we did a U-turn and went back to check it out.

The view from the top:

It was about a .5 mile hike down to the tunnel, which was the perfect way to stretch our legs!

So cool! It is still a working railroad so you can't go all the way in the tunnel.

Back at Lake Cumberland and just in time for the fireworks at Jamestown and State Dock. The view from the top of the houseboat was awesome.

On our last day, we explored a part of the lake we hadn't been to in a while and found a great place for cliff jumping...

It sure was hard to go home after such an incredible week...
